Topological superconductivity: Spin-polarized currents and Majorana fermions
We investigate zero-, one-, and two-dimensional configurations of ferromagnetic impurities deposited at the surface of an ordinary s-wave superconductor with Rashba spin-orbit interaction arising from surface effects. The model describes a topological superconductor in one and two dimensions, and in the one-dimensional wire configuration this leads to the appearance of Majorana fermions at the wire endpoints. In particular, we focus on understanding persistent spin-polarized currents that are present in the system, and how these currents can help explain why also the Majorana fermions are spin-polarized.
