Neutral modes at the edge: facts and hopes
Neutral modes at the edge of a two dimensional electron gas tuned to be in the fractional quantum Hall regime, were predicted 20 years ago and observed a few years ago. Recent experiments suggest that these modes are quite ubiquitous, showing up not only in hole-conjugate quantum Hall states. I will first review the theory behind these modes, and will then focus on some recent theoretical results that address the topological nature of these modes.
