Research Projects or Groups

These funds offer the opportunity to build up an independent research group, under the umbrella of QDev. Usually salaries for the Principal Investigator, other post docs, PhD students, as well as computing, travel and other expenses are supported.


The European Research Council (ERC) IDEAS program supports larger, 5-year projects at a world class level.

There are three types of ERC grants:

ERC Starting Grant for talented researchers in the beginning of their career. Applicants are divided into two categories: "True Starters" with 2-7 years of experience post PhD and "consolidators" with 7-12 years of experience post PhD.  Mid-October deadline.

ERC Advanced Grant is targeted experienced researchers. Mid-February deadline.

ERC Synergy enables small groups of Principal Investigators (2-4) and their teams to jointly address research problems. Late January deadline.

Lundbeck Jr. Group Leader

The Lundbeck Foundation provides 5 year funding for talented young researchers who wish to start a research group.  Mid-December deadline.


Danish Council for Independent Research | Natural Sciences (FNU) - Large projects

FNU supports independent researchers' large projects, 3-5 years.  End February deadline in 2012.  November 2012 deadline for 2013.

Danish National Research Foundation

The Niels Bohr Professorship Program seeks to attract strong, international, senior-level researchers who are able to significantly advance Danish research through the internationalization of a specific area of research inDenmark.  December deadline.



The Villum Foundation supports a Young Investigators' program with 3-5 years of funding for salary, PhD students and post docs, as well as computing and travel.  Early July deadline.
