Qubit readout and gates using parametrically modulated longitudinal coupling

In this talk I describe recent theoretical work on a new paradigm for qubit readout and two-qubit gates based on parametric modulation of a longitudinal coupling between the qubits and a bus resonator. I discuss a proposal for an implementation based on transmon qubits, and show some initial experimental designs from MIT. Finally, I explore possibilities for using the same approach to perform readout and unprotected entangling gates for Majorana devices, where a longitudinal coupling can be modulated via gate-controlled tunnel barriers.
